Forum: feature_films Subject: Yet Another List of Items in Question

Hi All,

The following is a list of films I haven't been able to find anything on. Are they PD?:

Treasure Island (Orson Welles) 1972 (Or any film version of Treasure Island, I love that story)
A Christmas Without Snow
Dr.Syn (1937)
Christopher Columbus (1949)
Robinson Crusoe starring Dan O'Herlihy (1952)
Lassie's Great Adventure (1963).

TV Shows

Northwest Passage(I heard somewhere that all episodes are PD?)
U.S.Marshal (As I understand one episode was renewed which one?)
Climax! (Particularly interested in the following episodes: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Casino Royal and The Lou Gehrig Story)
Gumby
Davy and Goliath
Act of the Apostles (Nelson Leigh)

Verification (Already on IA)
(I either haven't found proof or heard conflicting info on these being PD)

The Great Train Robbery 1904 (One guy said this wasn't PD)
The Green Hornet Serial
The Green Hornet Strikes Again Serial
Raiders of Old California

> Treasure Island (Orson Welles) 1972
> A Christmas Without Snow
> Dr.Syn (1937)
> Christopher Columbus (1949)

I ran a program that looked for these films in the inventories of
some dealers in p.d. movies (Filmchest, Buyout, Desert_Island, Festival).
Here are the titles that were found.

CHRISTMAS WITHOUT SNOW (Desert_Island)
DR SYN (Desert_Island)

Of course, this doesn't prove anything, but it may give you an idea
of what films to transcode first while waiting for Video-Cellar's analysis.

"The Great Train Robbery 1904 (One guy said this wasn't PD)"

Any original prints would HAVE to be PD, there can't possibly be anything from 1904 which isn't.

A restored version might be in copyright if it was done recently, but that copyright wouldn't apply to non-restored prints.

Whoever said that was probably thinking of the 1979 one with Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland.

You should make a new post asking about 'The Vigilantes Are Coming', and 'Robinson Crusoe of Clipper Island'.

I know that someone was going to upload 'The Vigilantes Are Coming', but hasn't yet.
